Story

!HELP!

Your attention and kindness is urgently needed - it’s a matter of mental health

On 15th September 2024 we will take part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk and walk 20 miles.

Help us make our efforts worth it and raise money for Health in Mind!

So, why are we doing this?

Sandra:

My friend Marie came up with the idea to combine the two things we love: walking and helping others. I did not hesitate one single millisecond when she asked me whether I want to go for a 20 mile walk with her to support Health In Mind. Yes, me too, I struggle with anxiety, and like an Indian Curry, sometimes I can handle it, sometimes I cannot. I am in the lucky position to have my family, friends, and a therapist who help me through it all.

Seeing that Mental Health is something that society is still struggling to talk about; for some, it is still a taboo subject. And with this in mind, I want to raise awareness. Whether you have anxiety, depression, or another mental illnesses, please reach out, talk to someone, family members, friends, or even with a stranger waiting for the bus. I lost friends because they didn't reach out, I dated someone who has depression - their lives are equally as important. Remember, a few minutes of one's time can save a life.

You are not alone.

Marie:

When I decided to take on the Mighty Stride challenge, there was no question in my mind that it would be in support of a service which promotes positive mental health. I love walking and I love hanging out with my friend; two of the main ways I look after my own mental health. This challenge is made for me.

Being an Occupational Therapist working in mental health, I see every day the impact mental illness and mental health difficulties have on people’s lives. Personally, I have struggled with anxiety to a bigger or lesser degree most of my life. I have family members that struggle. I have friends that struggle. We are human - we sometimes struggle!

When we struggle, charities like Health in Mind offer the kind of accessible services that can empower people to improve their mental health, get back on track and live life to the fullest.

More of that please.
