Story
Dad coped well with his decades long diagnoses of both Prostate Cancer and Chronic Leukaemia. He became unwell 2 years ago requiring chemotherapy for the Leukaemia and attended the Rennie Grove Day Hospice for a time. However he found his deteriorating brain functioning due to dementia the most difficult to bear, but was able to remain living at home over the last 6 months, thanks to his lovely live-in carer, Jenny, from Abbott’s Care.
Following his sudden deterioration due to the leukaemia, less than a week before he died, his wish to stay at home was only made possible by his GP, District Nurses, and not least, the 'Hospice at Home' service of Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care.
Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care is a charity providing specialist care & support for adults and children with life-limiting illnesses in Buckinghamshire & west Hertfordshire.
The Hospice at Home team’s gentle expert help with Dad, and support to the family, over the last days of his life, enabled him to die peacefully in his own home, 6 months after his beloved wife, our mum, Anne.
