Story
We are three colleagues from Dr. Martens, each with our own breast cancer journey, coming together this Breast Cancer Awareness Month to share our stories and raise awareness. Later this month we are walking 10k across Central London to raise money for CoppaFeel! Read more below to learn about my story.
Santhi (Diagnosed at 29)
Santhi’s diagnosis came in August 2023, when her GP and local breast centre insisted on “just in case” extra checks. Those checks revealed double positive breast cancer and a rare CHEK2 gene mutation. She underwent surgery to remove the tumour, chemotherapy, and a risk-reducing double mastectomy. Complications, including lymphoedema and ongoing hormone therapy, mean her treatment continues to impact daily life. Santhi’s story highlights that for many, cancer doesn’t end once the tumour is removed.
Whilst our experiences are unique, we share one important message: early detection and persistence save lives. That’s why we’re supporting CoppaFeel! this month - to help more people feel empowered to check themselves and seek answers.
We all feel massively appreciative to Dr. Martens for being a fantastic employer for giving flexibility and providing Bupa healthcare, this has been an essential life line to us all throughout this experience. 🖤💛
