Sara's Half Ironman Distance Triathlon - Cotswolds 113 (Cancer Research UK)

Cotswolds 113 Middle Distance Triathlon · 2 June 2024
I am taking part in the Cotswolds 113, a middle or half ironman distance triathlon which will see me swim 1.9km (1.2 miles), bike 90km (56 miles) and run 21km (13.1 miles). Yep it ends with a half marathon! I started training in December and am one of a handful of triathletes who struggle on a bike. My first half marathon was in Feb and my first 90km cycle was mid April.
So to ease the pain of training and competing and to keep me accountable, I'm raising funds for Cancer Research UK.
"One in two people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. There are more than 200 different types of cancer, and each is diagnosed and treated in a particular way." (NHS)
A very good friend of mine Sarah Leonard, has already battled and won her fight against bowl cancer. But she has now been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer; the chemo causing many issues to her liver and her heart. She will have a double mastectomy, armpit surgery and surgery to remove her ovaries.
I had cancer when I was 15, which returned 2 years later. Ovarian Dysgerminoma. Thankfully I was monitored closely and treated brilliantly at the Royal Marsden in Sutton and London, however it left it's scars, both physically and psychologically.
