Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday, the 12th of July I will be walking 26 undulating miles along Hadrian’s Wall from Lanercost Priory to Humshaugh. I’m taking on this challenge to raise funds for Teesside Hospice. My personal connection is through my sister Ruth, who continues to receive wonderful care and support from the Hospice.
Ruth was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer after a routine mammogram in March 2021. I’m so proud of my lovely sister and the way she is dealing with all that this horrible illness throws at her. Ruth is an absolute star; despite the limitations cancer and related treatments have imposed on her in recent years, she has never lost her sense of humour and desire to have fun. She even recently featured in an episode of the TV show Vera. We all think that Ruth could be Brenda Blethyn’s replacement, as you can see in the photo below she even has the hat and the mac!!
Teesside Hospice is a fantastic place and the people who work there are not only highly skilled, they are also amazingly kind, compassionate and caring. The services they provide make such a difference to so many people. The Hospice’s vision is ‘we will be there for everyone that needs us. We will change the way society and healthcare systems care for people with terminal illness and ensure local people get the very best care at the end of life’.
It costs around £18,000 each day to run all the services that Teesside Hospice offers. This includes; a 10 bed inpatient unit, well-being centre, outreach bereavement services for adults and children, and a lymphoedema clinic.
If you are able, please chip in and help me to support this wonderful place that means so much to so many people, including my family.
Many thanks
Sara
