Story
In Memory of Irene Owens
This fundraiser is held in loving memory of my mother, Irene Owens — a kind and loving woman with a heart of gold.
She was the mother of seven children and the grandmother of thirteen, and she poured her love into her family endlessly. Despite living much of her life affected by domestic violence, she never lost her compassion, her warmth, or her ability to care deeply for others. Those who knew her knew her generosity of spirit, her gentle nature, and the way she put her family before herself time and time again.
For years, my mother carried pain that was never hers to bear. Like so many survivors, she lived in circumstances shaped by fear, control, and silence. And yet, she continued to love fiercely and selflessly. Her story is not one of weakness — it is one of survival, resilience, and quiet strength.
Domestic violence does not always leave visible scars. Often, it hides behind closed doors and unspoken suffering. My mother’s life reflects the reality faced by countless individuals who feel trapped, unheard, or unsupported. Many endure because leaving feels impossible, because resources are limited, or because they are protecting the people they love.
This fundraiser exists so that fewer people have to endure what she did.
By supporting services that provide safety, support, counseling, and hope, we can help survivors find a way forward. Every donation helps create a lifeline for someone who may be living in silence right now.
We honor Irene not only by remembering her pain, but by celebrating her love and transforming her story into purpose. Her life reminds us that love should never hurt, that families deserve safety, and that cycles of violence can be broken.
In memory of a devoted mother, a cherished grandmother, and a woman whose love lives on through her children and grandchildren — thank you for standing with survivors.
