A million steps to earlier screening

A million steps before your birthday · 22 July 2025
As many of you know, we lost my lovely dad to lung cancer 6 years ago …
I’ve decided to walk a million steps for the Christie before his birthday on 22nd July and donate to their amazing research 🔬
*The Christie were brilliant to our whole family, and what should’ve been a 12 week expectancy ended up as nearly 18months of extra time.*
A lot of people still think of lung cancer as a smokers disease. But that’s not really the case, my dad never smoked in his life, was fit and healthy and was told he had asthma for over a year, when infact he had stage 4 cancer. It can easily be missed, especially in non smokers. And this is why I’m donating to the Christie :).
Almost half of those diagnosed are already at an incurable stage (44%) which is shocking and even for the rest the survival rate is so low, so I really want to help support towards earlier routine screening and better treatment options in hope that less people experience that ‘you’ve got 12 weeks’ shock call … I really believe we can (and we already are!) doing better 💪🤩.
I also know some people think cancer charities don’t change anything and I do think this as well for some, but with the Christie we genuinely saw hope given to us, month after month as clinical trials and new options appeared from their funding. Not only that but their level of care was amazing. 12 weeks to 18months was incredible. They’re making leaps in research and options :)
I’m not really here asking for donations ☺️ I had to set one of these up to take part in the challenge, I’m going to be submitting the donation money myself along with the steps 👣 but obviously every little helps so if you want to contribute, it really is for a good cause ☺️.
The main reason for my page is as a reminder - life is short, so im hoping you’ll see my determination to do a million steps and be encouraged to keep your loved ones a little closer, and make sure you laugh with them every day 😅☺️. It’s easy to focus on negatives in life, but the little things really are the big things :).
Wish me luck 🤣👣 🏔️
