Story
So when I crossed the line in 2025 - with very little training and a bout of pneumonia in the month before London - the emotions I felt couldn't and still can't be described. I had a lock of my beautiful little girl's hair attached to my shirt and I ran for the British Heart Foundation.
I wasn't intending on running another marathon as the time it takes to train, raise funds and get into the marathon mindset takes over every waking (and sleeping) moment of the months leading up to it. With all the horses at home and a full-time job it means that life is dictated pretty much from sunrise to sunset.
However, I may have had a wild hair and reading lots of BHF chats on WhatsApp made me realise it was such an incredible day that I wanted to do it again. But who for?
I applied to two charities - the BHF again and the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Why the air ambulance? It was an easy choice as they were first on the scene after my gorgeous girl's sudden cardiac arrest on December 29th 2023. The fence of where Em was living had to be taken down in order to get the helicopter in. While I was on the phone to those looking after Em, I could hear the EAAA crew working on her and relaying messages to me. These are things no parent should ever have to hear.
After raising almost £4K for the BHF last year, it has to be the EAAA's turn in 2026. They are an incredible charity with incredible people doing incredible things. In fact, I'm now in their Aftercare programme helping me process the events of that day as even after 19 months of losing my Twinkle it's still very tough.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance receives no regular government funding and relies entirely on the support of the community.
The crews are tasked an average of 8 times a day across the two bases, with each mission costing around £4,250. They can reach anywhere in the region within 25 minutes when every second can make the difference to a patient in their time of need.
Thank you so much for supporting me, every penny will help to save lives across East Anglia and I am so grateful for anything you can spare. Please, please give what you can. You never know when it could be you, or a family member, needing their help.
