On 17 October, my seven year old son Harry and I will be taking part in the Starlight Hike to raise funds for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. Those close to me will know why this means so much to us.

After an almost two-year, bravely fought battle with oesophageal cancer and three secondary metastatic brain tumours, my lovely Dad passed away on Saturday 16 May 2026, with Mum and me by his side.

Dad spent the final two weeks of his life being cared for at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham. The love, care and respect he received was truly exceptional, and we are eternally grateful to everyone who made sure his final days were comfortable and special. They also provided Mum and I with unwavering support, kindness and compassion during an incredibly difficult time.

Until you have experienced a Sue Ryder nurse or healthcare assistant, it is impossible to describe the love and care they embody.

Dad wanted to ensure that others would also continue to have access to their incredible service, which is why Harry and I are doing the Starlight Hike - to raise money for Leckhampton Court Hospice and help ensure that other families can receive the same extraordinary care, dignity and compassion when they need it most.
