Story

Hi All, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year marks 10 years since I was diagnosed with Oesophagus cancer.

29th July 2015 was one of the worst days of my life. Being told at age 41, I had cancer was one of the most difficult things I have ever been told. My dad died of cancer aged 37, so I thought I had been lucky to get to 41. I felt my life had ended, when I thought they said life began at 40.

At the time of starting treatment and recovery, I was put in touch with Douglas Macmillan Hospice, through the fantastic oncology team at North Staffs Hospital. I spoke to a member of the Douglas Macmillan team and they supported me financially with a gift of money to help pay towards my bills. I was blown away and grateful for their kind gesture to help me, as I live by myself and had to go on long term sick leave through my employer. I was terrified at how I would be able to support myself financially and their gift helped ease some of the fear, whilst I needed all my strength to battle my illness, treatment and recovery.

Now it is time for me to give them a gift back and know that all that I raise will help others, like I was helped by them.

10 years ago I was faced with the most terrifying situation of my life and I beat that fear. Saturday 5th July 2025 I will be facing my next ultimate fear and doing a sky dive. If I have overcome cancer, I can overcome this fear too.

So I would be grateful of your support by kindly donating to this wonderful charity and help to make someone else's cancer journey a little bit easier.
