Great North Run 2023 · 10 September 2023 ·
For as long as I can remember, my Grandpa raised funds for and supported St Oswald's Hospice. He was always really moved by the fantastic end-of-life care they provide to children and young people in the North East of England. Well into his seventies (when he wasn't in tip top health himself!), Grandpa would take part in the annual Great North Run as part of the St Oswald's team.
My Grandpa passed at the end of 2022, after a long battle with COPD. I am so grateful to have had such a loving, fun and mischievous man in my life; I miss him so much.
In honour of Grandpa, I'm running the Great North Run in September with my brother and my sister; picking up the fundraising mantle and raising funds for an excellent cause.
St Oswald’s is a hospice dedicated to making the most of time and improving the quality of life for children and young people living with an incurable condition. It is a home-from-home where families can stay with their loved ones and the focus is on generating quality time and ensuring dignity in end of life care.
My target of £300 will fund:
- 6 bereavement support sessions to help an adult or child cope with the loss of a loved one.
- Nutritious, home cooked meals, freshly prepared to suit patients individual needs and appetites.
- 12 hours of specialist nursing care, which will provide a listening ear and a hand to hold for a patient and their family at a difficult time.
If you can help, I really appreciate it. Thank you x
