As some of you know, and some of you may not, I lost my son Finley almost three years ago.

Finley was an amazing, happy nine-year-old boy who lived with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and developmental delay. Throughout his whole life, he required 24-hour care to support his complex medical and physical needs, and as his mum and full-time carer, that's what I did.

As a family, we were incredibly fortunate to receive support from Demelza Children's Hospice. They provided respite care, family support, compassionate end-of-life care, and continue to provide bereavement support today. Their support meant so much to us during some of the most difficult times of our lives, and I will always be grateful for everything they did for Finley and our family.

In Finley's memory, I am taking on a 24-hour challenge to raise funds for Demelza so they can continue supporting children and families who need them.

This challenge is designed to give a small insight into what it can be like to be a carer. For 24 hours, on the hour, every hour, I will be taking on a randomly selected gym activity. It won't matter whether I'm tired, hungry, exhausted, drained, alone, or surrounded by people. The challenge could be physically demanding, mentally challenging, fast-paced, or slow. It might last 15 minutes or 30 minutes – I simply won't know until the time comes. In many ways, that's exactly what being a carer can be like.

The purpose is simple: when you're a carer, there are no days, hours or minutes off. It doesn't matter what time it is or what else is happening around you. You step up and meet the needs of your child because they depend on you.

On 18th July, at Chapter Gym in Chatham, I'll be taking on this challenge to honour Finley's memory, show my appreciation for carers everywhere, and give back to Demelza for the incredible support they provided to our family.

Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and help Demelza continue their amazing work.
