Story
On October 4th I am running the Manchester half marathon for the charity Tommys. Before having Oliver I used to run regularly and my goal was always to do a half marathon. After getting pregnant I realised how tough getting back to my previous levels of fitness was going to be especially after a c-section and looking after a newborn. I could barely run for a minute. I was determined to get back into running and though setting myself a target was the best way to go about it.
The reason that I am running for Tommys is close to my heart and something I am only recently comfortable sharing with anyone other than my close friends and family. Before having Oliver I suffered two miscarriages in the space of two years. It took its toll on me mentally and physically and even though I had the most amazing support from Sean, my husband, it was a difficult time for us. I had convinced myself that children were not on the cards and unfortunately it takes 3 miscarriages before you can get support via the NHS.
We agreed to start trying again and after around 3 negative tests in November 2024 I found out I was pregnant with Oliver. Despite being excited I was nervous right up until our 20 week scan. I am lucky to say I had the best pregnancy, and even though Oliver took his time to arrive and gave us a scare right at the end he arrived safely and I wouldn’t change a thing.
I used Tommys many times for advice while dealing with everything and throughout my pregnancy and I am honoured to run and raise money for them.
