Story
There are some things that you simply have to do when you are Portsmouth born and bred - and abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower has to be near the top of that list!
So, on 13th June, I’ll be strapping into a harness, summoning my long-suppressed ambition to be a Royal Marine, and attempting to channel the Corps’ famous ethos: courage, determination, unselfishness, and cheerfulness in the face of adversity. Alongside a team of 20 equally “enthusiastic” volunteers, I’ll be abseiling down Portsmouth’s most iconic landmark to raise funds for the incredible new Royal Marines Experience.
The Royal Marines Experience will be far more than a traditional museum. It will be a place where the stories behind the uniform come to life - sharing the people, courage, teamwork and resilience that define the Royal Marines. Through remarkable objects, immersive exhibitions and hands-on experiences, it will bring to life the extraordinary personal stories of those who have served.
At its heart, the museum will celebrate generations of Royal Marines and their unique history, achievements and ethos. It will be a national centre for learning, inspiration and engagement - connecting visitors with the Corps, its operations, its people, and the values that continue to inspire in today’s complex and demanding world.
If you can support this brilliant cause, every donation will help ensure these stories continue to inspire future generations.
