I am aiming to swim around Brownsea Island (approx. 4 miles) to raise money to allow someone struggling with addiction to go into rehab to get their life back on track and start to live a life in recovery. In June this year I started my training, having never enjoyed swimming front crawl in the sea before and having never swam more than a mile in the sea. The training is going well; I've had great swimming conditions this summer however who knows what awaits me on 27th September! Knowing I'm raising money for an awesome cause will definitely motivate me when I'm having to dig deep.

Working for StreetScene I see how amazing a Bursary Bed can be, and how it allows someone who is struggling with substance misuse to have an opportunity to turn their life around. They may have jumped through all the hoops, gone to all the groups and meetings, but still have to wait for funding from a Drug & Alcohol funder whilst seriously struggling to cope with life. Sometimes this is their last chance.

If you had a family member who was struggling with addiction I think you'd want this opportunity to be available to them.....as no doubt you'd be at your wits end. Addiction is painful for all involved. No one chooses to be an addict. Please consider donating and helping me get round that island.
