Great North Run 2025 · 7 September 2025 ·

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

This September I am running the great north run to raise money for ‘MS SOCIETY’

Running the Great North Run for the MS Society is a meaningful way to support those affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). By participating, I am raising awareness and funds that can help improve the lives of people living with MS, including my boyfriend's mam Rebecca who doesn’t let MS win in any situation. She has a heart of gold and brings the joy everywhere she goes. My effort not only honors her experience but also contributes to research, support services, and advocacy for better treatment options. It’s a powerful way to make a difference in the community affected by this illness.

Rebecca’s story :

“I got diagnosed early 2015. I was getting a MRI scan cause the ENT didn’t know what was wrong they thought I had a tumour in the ear but no it was MS that decide to say hello 👋🏼. When I seen the doctor they said that by the looks of the scan I have had it for a long time about 8 to 10 years before they found out. Living with ms has made me face challenges that you’d never think would happen to you.”

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects nerves in your central nervous system. That's your brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating (myelin) that protects your nerves is damaged. This causes a range of symptoms like blurred vision and problems with how we move, think and feel. If you have any symptoms or are worried about anything please contact your GP.

The main symptoms include:

-fatigue

-difficulty walking

-vision problems, such as blurred vision

-problems controlling the bladder

-numbness or tingling in different parts of the body

-muscle stiffness and spasms

-problems with balance and co-ordination

-problems with thinking, learning and planning
