Sarah Does Strictly for Garden House Hospice Care

Hitchin Come Dancing · 8 March 2025
Until my mum received specialist, compassionate end-of-life hospice care in 2008, I did not realise that hospice care is free, but is only Government funded by one third. Garden House Hospice Care costs £7.7 million a year to run and two thirds of that has to be fundraised. That's £15,300 a day.
Since 2012 I have been a proud hospice volunteer, Compassionate Neighbour, fundraiser and Ambassador. I am also a proud Patron of the Anne Robson Trust and a member of the Hospice UK London Fundraising Committee, among other charities.
I have sat, laughed and cried with patients, held or massaged their hands, fed, read, driven, listened, befriended or just sat in silent company with them. And I'm proud to have helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds over 12 years.
I passionately believe that quality hospice care should be available everywhere and to all, and am committed to bring what experience I can to deliver this so that everyone at the end of their life can receive the care, compassion and comfort they need to die with dignity. It should not be a luxury.
I may have organised countless charity Balls, Dinner Dances, Receptions, Auctions and Concerts, but in my daughter's words I 'have two left feet' and completely forgot my rehearsed First Dance on my Wedding Day in 2014! However, of the many charities that I represent, Garden House Hospice Care remains my first love, and when I was approached to participate in Hitchin Come Dancing on 8 March at Hitchin Town Hall I couldn't possibly say no to dancing in memory of my mum and to prove my daughter wrong!
Please wish me and my patient partner Mick every success with our Salsa, and thank you in advance for your support! It means a lot to me.
Love, Sarah XX💃🕺🏻🪩
