Story
We are raising funds for the Cancer Research UK Newcastle Cancer Fund (Newcastle University Cancer Fund) in memory of Maggie Phillips.
Sadly, Maggie died from cancer on 18th October 2025, after a short illness, which she faced with characteristic positivity and cheerfulness and the occasional glass of fizz!
Maggie was a wonderful teacher and a fabulous friend to so many. She is greatly missed by all who knew her.
If you would like to make a donation in her memory to the Newcastle University Cancer Fund, information about their valuable work can be found below.
Thank you so much!
When Newcastle started its research into cancer 40 years ago, mortality from the disease was at a peak in the UK. Since then, cancer survival rates have doubled in part because of the efforts of people at Newcastle.
But cancer still accounts for a quarter of all deaths in the UK, and peoples lives are still being cut short because we have work to do. 1 in 2 people in the UK will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.
To ensure that the tides in the battle against cancer remain in our favour, we need you to join us on our mission.
By donating or fundraising for the Newcastle University Cancer Fund you can make a direct difference in the lab, where researchers fight every day for people all over the world who live with cancer.
