East-West cycle ride - cycling from Felixstowe to St David's · 6 September 2024

London Cycling Campaign is a 12,000 strong membership based charity. We make sure that everyone who cycles, or wants to cycle, has a voice in Greater London. Our mission is to transform our city into a healthier, cleaner and happier place to live where cycling is a choice for everyone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've done it! Arrived in St David's yesterday at 5.20pm in glorious sunshine, bike and dodgy knees intact. It was a fabulous ride, challenging at times given rolling Welsh hills and wind-rain-hail along the way. Huge thanks to friends who hosted me - Julia, Jo, Caroline - and to Rosie who guided me through the beautiful Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire countryside. Alan and Cerys in the 'support vehicle' helped to dry out soaked clothes and trainers and cheered me on.

Cycling from Felixstowe to St David's via Cambridge, Olney, Charlbury, Eaton Bishop, Llangammarch Wells and Pentrecagal, I've been raising funds for London Cycling campaign, to support women's cycling - particularly encouraging women who have never cycled to gain the confidence to get on a bike. Thanks so much toe everyone who has sponsored me, I'm really grateful for your support.

I started cycling in London with the encouragement of a female colleague, who helped me choose my first road bike and inspired me with her daily cycle rides while she was going through treatment for cancer. London's daily cycle journeys have tripled since 2000, with now over 1.2 million trips per day, and I have really appreciated London’s improved cycling infrastructure and greater acceptance of cycling in our streets. But it is still the case that less than a third of London’s daily cycle trips are made by women - by contrast, in Dutch cities, women account for more than half of daily cycle journeys.
