Story
I am the Chair of Amma Birth Companions, a life-changing charity which supports migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers through pregnancy and early parenthood in Glasgow. I have never run a marathon before, and tore my hamstring in February whilst training, so this will be a huge challenge to complete!
I could not be more proud of this non-executive role, and the impact Amma makes on the lives of those who need it most. Being a foster mum, and watching my sons grieve over family that’s disconnected, then becoming a granny at 40, has given me a renewed appreciation of the importance of family when birthing and raising babies.
Amma provide birth companionship, peer support groups, antenatal education, and practical help - because everyone deserves dignity, connection, and expert care during this transformative time.
Our work is led by women with lived experience, building community and challenging the systems that too often fail migrant families. Together, we're creating a Scotland where nobody faces birth alone.
No donation is too small; even a fiver helps a volunteer travel to the birth of new wee refuweegie!
I will drag myself over the line, for I’m no athlete! But I turn 49 in August, and that’s a personal milestone for me as my dad didn’t make it past this age. Thanks 🙏🏻 so much for reading, and donating ❤️
