Story
On New Year's Day 2026 Uncle Alan sadly passed away after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour in September. In his last months, Uncle Alan made every moment count.
His family are very grateful for the support they received from St Nicholas Hospice.
To honour his memory, i decided to make every day count and to not avoid things that scare me. A big fear is open water. With that in mind, i decided to take on the challenge of a sprint triathalon. I started swimming lessons January 2026 to prepare me for the 750 m swim in Burghley House Lake. This will be followed by a 20km cycle ride and a 5km run.
My training moto is simple: don't drown, don't crash, don't fall!
Come and support me on the 10th May 2026 at Burghley House, Stamford. Bring a picnic. I will be easy to spot - last one in the water and last out!
UPDATE- March 2026
Training has been going really well. I can now swim, although my brother has asked how I manage to stay afloat when I swim so slowly! (RUDE!).
I thought the swim would be my biggest challenge - how wrong I was. On the 12th March I received the shocking news that I have breast cancer. I have been told by the consultant there will be no triathlon as I will have started treatment in May 2026. This surgeon obviously isn't an occupational therapist who recognises the value of having a goal. I have therefore made plans to bring my triathlon forwards. All being well, I will do 'Sarah's sprint triathlon' on Saturday Aprill 11th in Whittlesey. I am very grateful to The Manor for providing me with a lane and Whittlesey Cricket Club for agreeing I can use the pavilion as a base.
My 750 m swim will start at 12.15pm. This will be followed by a 20km bike ride from the manor to Peterborough and back (down the green wheel), finishing with a 5km run in Whittlesey.
I would love any friends and family to join me for this event, this could be by cheering me on, buying some cake or doing one or more of the events. I am ready to show cancer it has chosen the wrong warrior to mess with.
I have already received so much support from my family and friends, I really am a very lucky lady xx
Thank you.
