Story
This October, I’m taking on my first half marathon event and fundraising for Casualties Union.
Casualties Union a unique charity that brings disaster training to life. Their volunteers use makeup and acting to create realistic injury simulation that helps emergency services prepare for the worst, from multi-vehicle crashes to major incidents.
It’s messy, detailed, challenging yet incredibly important work. Learning the moulage skills is hard and requires frequent practice, so too is getting the acting right. When responders train with realism, they react better. Having a safe environment to train in, to make mistakes at and to learn how to care for their patients better, is what counts.
So I’m running 13.1 miles to support other volunteers across the country who make training real — and I’d love your help. Every donation goes toward keeping this vital service running. Casualties Union has no paid employees and, in 2024 in Surrey Branch, over 75% of our attendance at emergency exercises and training scenarios was provided free of charge to the likes of the air ambulance, fire service, ambulance teams, the NHS, police and youth organisations. Every penny and every pound counts and helps us continue to deliver; even £2 would be enough to cover the cost of some minor injury makeup!
🩷 Please donate, share, and cheer me on — I’ll do the miles if you help fuel the mission!
