Story
Dear all, thank you for visiting this page, we really appreciate any donations so far, but we are yet to reach our target, so any new or further donations are hugely welcome.
Due to various health and logistical issues with weather, we are going to need to move our walk to September or early October. This will ensure we are in optimal physical health and able to complete the walk appropriately.
Thank you for your patience.
===============================================================
In May 2023 I lost my nephew Omar to suicide. We are still coming to terms with this and the reality of his death in this tragic way never leaves us. In Dec 2023 I did a 10 mile walk across the Sussex downs in memory of Omar and for James' Place. This year on August 30th, Matthew (my husband), and I, will do a 20 mile walk through London to help raise even more crucial funding that can help support suicidal men at different stages of their own crisis.
James' Place:
We define a suicidal crisis as intense and distressing suicidal thoughts, feelings of hopelessness and despair, plans, or intent to act
We believe nobody should face a suicidal crisis alone. We help suicidal men quickly, when they need us. At James' Place, our mission is to stop men dying by suicide. Yet, in the UK suicide is still the single leading cause of death of men under 50. We believe that no man should face a suicidal crisis alone. James' Place provides free, professional therapy for men in suicidal crisis to help them find hope for the future.
Every donation helps save a life.
· £15 funds the first conversation with a man in suicidal crisis, providing the first step in his recovery.
· £50 covers an initial assessment for a man in crisis within two working days of him seeking help.
· £110 pays for a therapysession in a safe and welcoming environment.
· £250 enables an outreach session in a workplace or community setting, reaching more men in need.
· £850 funds a therapist for a week, supporting 20 men in crisis.
· £1,800 supports one man through James’ Place’s life-saving intervention, helping him find hope and a way forward.
With thanks
Sarah, Matthew and Omar's family
