Story
This time last year I was diagnosed with a prolactinoma - a non-cancerous tumour on my pituitary gland.
Thankfully it is treatable with medication, which for me has been really effective at shrinking the tumour, so that's the good news! The less good news is that it has impacted my health and my hormones, the medication has unwelcome side effects, and these kinds of tumours can grow back even after treatment. This means for me it is now a chronic health condition to manage for life.
Unfortunately the close proximity of the pituitary gland to the optic nerves also means that the tumour has had a detrimental effect on my eyesight - I currently have reduced peripheral vision and blurry distance vision, and my doctors are still figuring out whether this is temporary or permanent.
It hasn't been easy to come to terms with all of this, but I have found the support of the Pituitary Foundation to be extremely helpful in connecting me with a community of other people with similar health conditions.
So, this April, whilst I'm awaiting further information from the hospital and unable to drive due to my eyesight issues, I've decided to do something positive! I'll be getting on my bike and cycling 100km total during the month to raise money for the Pituitary Foundation.
This is part of their Move Your Way fundraising campaign - more info below:
