charity afternoon · 1 March 2025

We focus our time, money and energy in 3 key areas; improving cancer prevention and early detection, supporting excellent cancer treatment locally, and supporting people living with and beyond cancer.

Story

Hi Everyone,

My name is Sarah, and I am organising a charity afternoon for Lingen Davies. It will consist of a raffle and an auction, and it will end with me having my head shaved.

Why am I doing this?

I am organising this on behalf of my mother-in-law who has been diagnosed with liver, pancreatic and lymph node cancer.

Margaret has had one round of chemo but unfortunately when she went to have the second round her white blood cell count was too low. The advice from palliative care is to take each day as it comes. Unfortunately, Margaret's diagnosis is terminal, meaning all we can do is try to make her life as comfortable as it can be.

I am also doing this for my dad who had lung cancer but thankfully the treatment he received worked and he is still around to live another day.

Who are Lingen Davies?

Lingen Davies are the main cancer charity dedicated to support the people of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and mid Wales. The charity exists to enhance and improve the lives for local cancer patients.

Raising money for Lingen Davies will help patients and their families in the sad and emotional times ahead for them. Donations to Lingen Davies will help them supply things such as:

Cooling Caps - for patients who are having chemotherapy which helps to prevent hair loss.

Radar Keys – which allow patients access to disabled toilets while they are out, and about which makes them feel more comfortable when leaving the house.

Bins For Boys – for men who suffer from prostate cancer they can experience bladder and bowel problems following treatment. Lack of sanitary bins in male toilets in public places affects men who need to wear pads, pouches, stomas, catheters, colostomy or ileostomy bags, donations will help fund more bins in the community.

What am I asking for?

I am asking for donations to raise money for this great cause. I am also asking if anybody would like to donate any raffle prizes to the cause.

We will also be having an auction of one of the prizes so far which has been donated by Gerald Rogers at Shropshire homes - a 2025 season Shrewsbury Town football shirt signed by all the players.

You can also donate to the cause directly via the just giving page here:

On the day we will hold the raffle and those who have purchased tickets will win the prizes donated.

If anybody would like to come to this event It will be Saturday 1st March 12pm onwards and will be held it at THE HARE AND HOUNDS Withington https://g.co/kgs/BDDzZmo.

The event will culminate in me having my head shaved if anybody would like to join me in doing this please feel free to. Please donate to this great cause to help those suffering from this horrible disease!

Thanks sincerely,

Sarah,
