5th December 2024 I faced a senior medical consultant who read out my MRI report describing an advanced and complex cancer. I heard the first two sentences and then shutdown. I put my head in the sand. What ensued was several months of waiting. The uncertainty drove me to almost give up. But then I met Star Throwers. They are a charity that gives support to people with cancer, or family, loved ones, carers and people who have had cancer. Their impact on my cancer story can not be underestimated. They put me back in control, they made me feel loved and gave me a place where I felt safe.

I am going to climb Mount Snowden 21st July 2025, that’s easy right? I have been promising my son that we would do this together since he was a young lad! When I started to feel ill from my cancer it hurt me to realise for the first time that I did not have the physical strength to do it, that I didn't even know if I would live long enough to do it. This is about the same time I started fighting back.

When I stand at the bottom of that mountain, I will do so knowing that I am fit enough to do it, knowing that I have won this small part of the battle.
