Why I’m raising money for BRCA+ Chat
I’m raising money for BRCA+ Chat because I know first-hand just how important their support is to people living with a BRCA gene mutation.
I carry the BRCA1 gene, and my journey has meant making some incredibly difficult decisions to reduce my risk of cancer. I’ve had my fallopian tubes removed, which was an incredibly tough decision, and almost three years ago I had a double mastectomy. The surgeries, both physically and emotionally, were incredibly challenging.
My dad sadly died from melanoma at just 57. If I reach 40 without a cancer diagnosis, I will be the only female on my dad’s side of the family with the gene to have reached that age without one. That is something I never take for granted.
Since joining BRCA+ Chat, I’ve found an incredible amount of support, understanding and reassurance from people who truly understand what it’s like to live with the uncertainty and decisions that come with carrying the BRCA gene.
BRCA+ Chat provides a safe, supportive community for people like me, helping us feel less alone through some of the hardest decisions and moments of our lives.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, I would be incredibly grateful. Every contribution will help BRCA+ Chat continue supporting people affected by BRCA.
