Thorpe Park Triathlon fundraiser for Partners for Change Ethiopia

Sarah Parfitt is raising money for Partners for Change Ethiopia

Thorpe Park · 29 June 2025

PFC Ethiopia mission is to empower the most disadvantaged communities in Ethiopia and neighbouring countries to end child poverty. In over 35 years, we have developed a unique approach in the way we work with local communities to provide them with the support they need to take ownership of projects.

Story

In January this year, Caroline and I travelled to Ethiopia with our friends from PFC Ethiopia and visited Tibase M. School in Debre Birhan. Along with our special helper, Paddington Bear, we delivered some letters from the school children in the UK to the pupils there.

We were incredibly moved by the fact that in a community where there was so much poverty and so many people have been displaced by conflict, there was also surprisingly so much joy. Families at Tibase M. School struggle to feed, clothe and educate their children -

So, what has happened since we returned from Ethiopia? Well, along with our friends from Holy Trinity School in Cookham and William Hogarth School in Chiswick, we have been fundraising and the good news is that together we have raised over £7,000 (!!) and managed to open a Breakfast Club for the most disadvantaged children at Tibase M. School.

The bad news if that we don't raise more money we won't be able to keep the breakfast club open. We also want to be able to offer some of the mums at the school small business training so that together we can bring about sustainable change.

So, on Sunday, June 29th, along with our sons, Josh and Sam and our wonderful friends, Cathy and Rom, we will be doing the Thorpe Park Triathlon and we'd love you to make a donation, however small, to help change the lives of children at Tibase M. School.

It's going to be a very special day - our sons, Josh and Sam have also been ambassadors for PFC Ethiopia since they were at primary school and came to Ethiopia with us in 2018 to see another school project. It was a life-changing and life-affirming trip and it's lovely that they are joining us on the 29th.

Caroline and I were first introduced to PFC Ethiopia in 2013 and over the last 12 years, have had the privilege of setting up friendship links between Holy Trinity School and William Hogarth School and four other schools Gende Tesfa School, Biruf Tesfa School, Basso School and Chole Schools. We really hope that together we change lives at Tibase M. School and are very grateful to Cathy and Rom for joining us.

Just to give you an idea - it costs £60 to offer a mum small business training and £160 to provide a child with breakfast, school clothes, stationery and some TLC for a year.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported our Partners For Change Ethiopia friendship links over the last 12 years: "Little by little, a little becomes a lot".
