2025 will mark 10 years since the death of my mother, Barbara Ann Platt, and I am training to run the London Marathon in her memory whilst also raising money for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice. This will be my first marathon, so I have a big challenge ahead! My husband Isaac will be providing his coaching experience, whilst I juggle my training with looking after our children Ruben and Rosa, and working full time as a gynae-oncology consultant!
The Dougie Mac Hospice cared for my mother in her final days, and my father, sister and I were at her bedside at the hospice when she died there on the 31st December 2015. My mother talked so fondly of the care she received from all the staff when she was at the hospice, and the team supported us to get her home for a few days to share her final Christmas with our family, including her 6-month old twin grand-daughters Florence and Charlotte. These memories are so special and will always be treasured. By raising money for the hospice, I hope that more families can benefit from such outstanding care and support.
Having grown up in the Potteries, I am also aware of the fantastic work that the hospice has done for many of my friends and their families over the year; it is such an important place in our community.
Thank you for supporting me, my family, and the hospice in this challenge.
