Story
I'm running for SSNAP as it is a cause that resonates close to our hearts.
When our middle daughter made a rapid, dramatic but silent arrival, nothing prepared us as parents for the emotional, mental & psychological turmoil. The feeling of complete helplessness is a living nightmare. Although her birthdays are a time of great celebration and gratitude for her, there's always a little dark cloud with the recall of that time.
SSNAP provides all the support newborn babies and their family need at their most vulnerable time.
We want to raise money for SSNAP to help as many parents as possible who have sick newborns and enable them to get all the support they need.
I'm running (possibly walking some), the Oxford half marathon as part of what I believe will be a constant recovery for myself & my husband. Its going to be a MASSIVE struggle! As a Mum of 3, who hasn't run properly in 12 years, I'm honestly not sure I can actually complete it! I have every aim of somehow crossing that finish line. I used to run, but finding the time whilst working full time, and ensuring each child does their homework and gets to their numerous weekly extracurricular activities is proving highly challenging! 5am runs pre 12.5 hour shifts appears to be the most convenient time!
Its an honour to run for SSNAP.
SSNAP support sick newborn, their parents and those that care for them; by providing emotional, medical, financial and informational support.
SSNAP was founded in 1982 and has supported the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital ever since. The unit can care for up to 56 babies at any one time and is a Level 3 Centre, the most sick and premature babies from across the Thames Valley, are looked after here in Oxford.
