I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in aid of the Pelvic Radiation Disease Association. This disease is a complex collection of symptoms that can result in the long term from radiation treatment for cancer within the pelvis (e.g. ovarian, prostatic, bladder etc.). These varied and frequently painful and embarrassing symptoms can be physically and mentally debilitating for patients, even when the cancer is "cured".

The aims of the charity are to drive recognition of the over-arching term "Pelvic Radiation Disease" by the medical profession in order to provide a co-ordinated and well informed approach, rather then the disconnected approach to individual symptoms that maybe accessed presently. Raising awareness of the profound and multi-organ effects of radiation will enable appropriate data collection and research in order to provide support and treatment for sufferers, information for those about to undergo radiation treatment, and ultimately solutions to reduce the effects of this complex condition. The charity also provides practical support for sufferers and a safe space for them to share experiences.
