Story

Charlie is taking part in this year's Wave Project Sponsored Surfathon!

This is a fantastic charity and we are thrilled Charlie is getting the chance to take part in this amazing event. Charlie has been surfing with The Wave project for around 7 years. The water is his absolutely happy place, he doesn't have to stay within his regular boundaries and has the freedom to experience what he loves the most! Charlie doesn't often show delight but when he is in the water at Croyde with Greg, Ian, Jazz and all the amazing volunteers he wouldn't want to be anyone else.

Charlie is able to be himself and is treated like a celebrity when he walks in to the surf school, its like being at home for him. It is a family adventure also, William gets the chance to enjoy an activity and watch his cool brother surfing. Dad gets in the water (sometimes Mum!!!) and is fully involved in sessions. There are no pressures on Charlie and he loves everything about it! These sessions really do allow Charlie to live a more fulfilled life in a fully environment that he loves with people that really care about him and his experiences.

More about The Wave Project

We improve children's mental health and wellbeing through our award winning Surf Therapy programme.

Surf Therapy is an evidence-based programme that enables children and young people to build confidence and overcome anxiety barriers through surfing. We deliver personal surf lessons for people with disabilities who require additional support.

This is done through our three specialist Adaptive Surfing Hubs in Cornwall, the Isle of Wight, North Devon and North Yorkshire.

Surfing is for everyone. We know that some people with physical disabilities simply want to try surfing as an experience rather than doing a course.

With this in mind, we have introduced our Adaptive Surfing programme for people with disabilities.

Adaptive Surfing is delivered by specially trained surf coaches supported by our wonderful trained volunteers.

Sessions are booked individually because each person has different needs and may require different levels of support. Our goal is to make the surfing experience as authentic as possible for each participant, removing any barriers that prevent them from accessing surfing.
