We believe that all pets should have access to veterinary care – regardless of their owners’ financial situation. Over 100 years, we’ve helped more than 20 million sick and injured pets – providing life-saving vet care to more vulnerable pets than any other animal charity in the UK today.

Story

On 19th October, we lost our beautiful Karen far too soon, at the young age of 59. Today, on what should have been her 60th birthday, her family would like to honour her life by raising funds for two incredible charities.

Karen had a huge heart, especially when it came to animals. At the time we lost her, she had Willow, Jed, Joey and Scruffy. Her love for dogs was endless, and one charity she always supported was the PDSA, who do so much to care for pets when they need it most.

Karen also showed incredible strength and determination throughout her own health journey. She lived with kidney disease and underwent dialysis for two years, fighting every day to stay with us. Her courage inspired everyone who knew her.

Many years ago, when Karen worked in a fish and chip shop in Shropshire, she used to tell the story of a footballer from Manchester United who would come in for food. That footballer was Andy Cole. Years later, Andy himself suffered kidney failure, and so he set up The Andy Cole Fund in partnership with Kidney Research UK.

Andy Cole created this fund to help people just like Karen – those living with kidney disease. The money raised goes towards vital research into kidney transplants, as well as improving support for patients’ mental health and wellbeing during such a difficult journey.

By donating, you will be helping to honour Karen’s memory, support the causes she cared deeply about, and make a real difference to both people and animals in need.

Thank you for helping us celebrate Karen’s life and legacy on what should have been her 60th birthday. 💜
