Story
Our nephew who is 6 year old has recently been diagnosed with ALD. He now has to undergo chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
The condition was found through a genetic test that has been trialed with new born babies. The doctors said it is the first time this condition was found through the younger sibling.
Leukodystrophies are rare genetic disorders that mainly affect the white matter of the central nervous system (ie the brain or spinal cord). They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, most notably children.
Leukodystrophies are usually degenerative, causing symptoms such as impaired mobility, vision, speech and hearing, incontinence, and loss of cognitive skills. In many cases, this sadly means a reduced or limited lifespan.
Your donation will help Alex TLC continue to provide the best support possible to those affected.
