Climbing Ben Nevis for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity

Climbing Ben Nevis
June 30th 2020...a day that will never be forgotten for my family and friends (although I personally don’t remember a huge amount of it!).
That day I was involved in a freak horse riding accident, suffering a traumatic brain injury. I was thrown and dragged some distance, my head repeatedly hitting the ground. I was in a critical condition and if it wasn’t for the midlands air ambulance I don’t think I would be here today. The critical care doctor and paramedic were able to put me into an induced coma to protect my brain and get me to hospital as quickly as possible.
I spent a month in intensive care at Royal Stoke hospital, & then a further 5 months on specialist rehabilitation wards. It wasn’t until later in my recovery that I found out that the air ambulance came to my rescue and essentially saved my life.
I am still getting stronger all the time and walking has helped with that. Over the past year, me and my friend Amy have challenged ourselves with many different hiking routes in the Peak District and nearby areas. But next month we are finally venturing up to the Scottish highlands for the ultimate walking adventure. We plan to tackle the biggest challenge of climbing Ben Nevis and hope to raise money for Midlands Air ambulance in doing so.
Each year it costs in excess of £9 million to maintain the three aircraft and the provision of a lifesaving service. Each air ambulance mission costs an average of £2,500. Each critical care car or cardiac car mission costs £224 on average. Midlands air ambulance receives no government funding and relies solely on donations to continue this life saving work. You never know when you’re going to need that critical care and rapid response. Nothing I can ever say, could possibly come close to thanking them fully.
I love Midlands air ambulance, they are my heroes. I wouldn’t be here without them! ♥️
