Story

Hi, I’m Sarah, and alongside my friend Millie, I’m taking on the London Landmarks Half-Marathon in support of Dementia UK, a charity that provides specialist nurses for families affected by dementia.

I’m a researcher studying the cellular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia. Overall, dementia affects around 900,000 people in the UK, and this number is rising as the population ages.

Through my work as a doctor, I’ve also seen how challenging it can be for families to navigate dementia care. That’s why the support provided by charities such as Dementia UK is so crucial—helping families cope with the emotional and practical difficulties of caring for a loved one. While research and medical care are key to understanding and treating dementia, practical support for families is just as important—and that’s exactly what Dementia UK provides.

I’m also running in support of my grandma, Angelika, who is living with dementia. She has been a huge inspiration in shaping my PhD research, driving my commitment to better understanding this complex disease.

Any donation, big or small, will help Dementia UK continue their incredible work. Thank you for your support!
