Story
In a world where every day brings new challenges, I’m attempting to do something that has never been done before… on December 7, 2025 - I will participate in a personal challenge to raise awareness and funds for Breakthrough T1D. This 15-hour mental and physical challenge will see me moving every hour, on the hour - completing 1,405 meters on an erg and performing 47.5 reps of an exercise.
The statistics are staggering: in just 2025 so far, 513,125 people were newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes worldwide - that’s an alarming rate of 1,405 individuals every single day. Tragically, we also lost 173,516 lives to T1DM in the same year - a shocking 475 lives each day. T1DM is an incurable autoimmune disease that requires constant management and vigilance, every single day.
This challenge is not just about physical endurance - it’s about shedding light on the daily realities faced by those living with T1D. Every hour during my challenge, I will share insights into three factors that affect blood sugar levels - many of which are beyond our control - to educate others about the complexities of managing this condition. My goal is to raise awareness and foster understanding of what it truly means to live with T1DM.
I want to inspire others who are navigating this journey to know they are not alone - by pushing myself beyond my perceived limits, I hope to demonstrate that we are all stronger than we think.
I am asking for your support in this endeavour - my goal is to raise $10,000 AUD for vital research through Breakthrough T1D. Without adequate management and research advancements for T1DM, we wouldn’t be alive.
