Story
At 34 yrs old I found a lump in my left breast, by the time I discovered the lump it was too large to preserve my breast and I had to undergo a single mastectomy with lymph node removal followed by a course of radiotherapy. Like many others I never thought something like this could ever happen to me - I had never checked my breasts before - I was too young! If it wasn’t for my friends at the time pressuring me I wouldn’t even have gone to the GP with my lump in the first place. Following diagnosis I was introduced to the charity ‘My Cancer my Choices’ who changed my life during a difficult recovery. I am forever grateful for the compassion I received and now it is time to give back and raise awareness.
One in two people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Cancer affects the body, mind and spirit and MCMC passionately believes everyone with cancer should have access, from diagnosis, to complementary therapies. MCMC's volunteer, specialist therapists offer free, one-to-one treatments such as acupuncture and massage, alongside group courses in mindfulness and yoga. These aim to relieve the side effects of cancer treatment and can make the cancer journey easier by encouraging relaxation and reducing stress.
To show you what a difference your generous donation can make:
£10 could pay for an hour's room hire at one of the treatment centres
£22 could buy a large box of ear acupuncture needles
£40 could buy two bottles of organic massage oil
£100 could cover over 200 miles of therapist travel expenses
£225 could pay for a month's patient management software licence
£350 takes one person through their entire MCMC journey
I hope you can join me on my mission to make a difference to people living with cancer within the local community.
