Sarah's fundraiser for National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS)

Wing Walk - Standing on the top wing of a bi-plane whilst it is flying! · 10 May 2026

The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) is the UK’s leading charity representing and supporting half a million adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and children and young people with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), through our helpline, information services, research and campaigns.

Story

As some of my closest friends and family may know, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 29, and since then I have also contracted both Psoriatic and Osteoarthritis.

Some may say my stubbornness has enabled me to carry on with life to its fullest. I have climbed mountains, been as active as I can be, and run my own business, which I love—grooming dogs, a job that can be quite physical.

However, without the support and information provided by the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) and the research that has gone into this disease, I would not be receiving the biologic treatment (an infusion, every 8 weeks) that has almost halted this disease from attacking my body any further. The care and support of the amazing specialist nurses and doctors who look after me have been invaluable. It’s time to give back!

I have therefore decided to tick off the top item from my ‘50 before 50’ list by participating in a Wing Walk—a thrilling personal challenge where I will stand on the top wing of a vintage Boeing Stearman biplane while it flies! On July 19th, 2025, at Henstridge Airfield in Somerset, I will be strapped to the top wing, experiencing the full force of the elements at speeds of up to 120 mph while a highly qualified pilot performs various flypasts, manoeuvres and dives of up to 35 degree angles.

Photos and videos will capture this exhilarating day, but more importantly, I'm asking for your support. Please sponsor me in this daring adventure to help NRAS continue their vital work. The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society is dedicated to supporting all those living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), empowering them to live their lives fully.

Together we can make a difference! My initial target is £1,000—every contribution counts towards changing minds, services & lives for people with RA and JIA. Visit there website at www.nras.org.uk for more information.
