Story

My Dad’s Story - by Mollie

My Dad was diagnosed in Autumn 2024,after experiencing stomach pains for several months. Initially, doctors thought it was kidney stones but after several scans, realised it was very serious and referred him to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. That’s when he was diagnosed with having a rare form of soft tissue sarcoma.

He underwent extensive surgery and they managed to remove a football sized tumour that had been continuously growing silently for about a year. It was an intensive road to recovery for my Dad but the Marsden have been amazing.

The team have been incredibly kind and provided people to talk to, offered support groups as well as having regular check ups and scans. My Dad’s journey continues but having the right support around him has meant the world to us.

In the UK, each year around 4,000 people are diagnosed with soft tissue sarcomas. Of this, only about 500 have the type my Dad has. These types of sarcomas are so rare that a health care professional is only likely to see one of these cases in their entire career. That’s why we are walking on the first of November to raise awareness about sarcomas, help with funding groundbreaking research, advocate for early diagnosis, push for equitable access to specialist care like my Dad received at the Royal Marsden and Brompton Hospitals.

Please donate if you can, any amount makes a real difference. Together we can improve lives and give hope.

We hope to raise awareness of this rare cancer...one step at a time.

Thank you so much!
