If we are lucky enough to raise more than we are hoping for then the charity is providing a Ward revamp for Transitional Care so all funds raised will go towards improving the standard of care that we can provide to these vulnerable families

Transitional Care provides enhanced postnatal care to babies and their families who are born with vulnerabilities. These include babies that are born prematurely, have a low birth weight, have congenital abnormalities, diabetic mothers, and a variety of other medical conditions.

These babies would otherwise need to be cared for on NICU and separated from their mothers, however transitional care enables families to stay together.

These vulnerable babies are more likely to develop neonatal jaundice, which can be a normal physiological condition, however babies with additional complications, such as prematurity, often require treatment and support to clear this condition.

Phototherapy treatment is currently provided in a large incubator, in which the baby is placed in just a nappy and eye mask and then a blue light is shone in to the incubator. Babies are unable to be comforted, held or fed without halting treatment. For this reason treatment is often prolonged and can be distressful for both baby and mother.

Our aim is to purchase two Bilicocoon systems which enables phototherapy to be provided in a swaddle.

The Bilicocoon enables a baby requiring phototherapy treatment to remain in a normal cot, but most importantly to be held and fed without halting treatment. This is a far less distressing experience for all involved and results in quicker treatment and recovery. Babies are just beginning their feeding journey and this system allows this to continue without disruption.
