In the UK somebody takes their own life every 75 minutes. Despite, this effective and ongoing support for those who feel suicidal is hard to find. The Listening Place meets this need by providing free, face-to-face, ongoing support for as long as it takes to reduce somebody's suicidal feelings.

Story

Savanta's 2024 charity of the year fundraising will be for The Listening Place.

The Listening Place was founded in 2016 by a group of volunteers by a group of volunteers with a great deal of experience in supporting the suicidal. They had recognised that there is little on going face-to-face support available for many people with chronic suicidal feelings, and that some of this support can be given by well trained and professionally supervised volunteers.

The Listening Place's mission is to provide those who feel life is no longer worth living with a safe place to come and talk freely and confidentially to warm, non-judgemental volunteers who are willing to engage with their feelings and support them through their darkest times.

Suicide kills around 18 a day in the UK. Most of those who die have sought but not found support and help. Suicide is the major single cause of death in men under the age of 49 in the UK, and there is an alarming increase in suicidal intentions amongst women.

Just £250 will give one individual the support they need, for as long as they need, to significantly reduce their suicidal feelings.
