Callum's fundraiser for St Mary Magdalene Church - Langridge

Callum Del Mar is raising money for St Mary Magdalene Church - Langridge
Langridge Church is a beautiful and unique church nestled in a little valley just outside Bath. It was built by the Normans and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The Battle of Lansdown was fought on the neighbouring hills.

Story

Thanks for considering a donation to Langridge.

This special sanctuary is teetering on the edge of becoming a festival church, so right now every single penny has an outsized impact on the future viability of this church.

While she may not have the largest regular congregation when it comes to Sunday services, she has a non insignificant 'silent congregation' who regularly come her to seek the Lord's peace in this ancient valley for private meditation (I started off as one of these people, which is how I came to be involved).

After 900 years, it would be a genuine tragedy to see this church shut down. The thought of the world changing so much in an irreversible way that something which had been consistent for nine centuries is finally falling in to obsoletion genuinely scares me and makes me fear for the world.

I hope with all my heart that we can save St.Mary's for future generations, not only so we have this timeless unchanging ark where we can rest from the increasingly demanding world we live in, pretending the modern world doesn't exist, but also our of respect for the love and lives which came before us - those generations upon generations of people for for who this church at the center of their world (baptisms, weddings, funerals, communal worship and common purpose), those people who kept these places secure, tidy, in use and beautiful.

These places have been handed over into our trust, and we owe it to them to not be the last in such an important and profound chain.

I had to do something personally so Ive created this page to at least use my small social media presence to allow people to donate to Langridge.

There is no pressure but literally any amount you could spare will have an outsized impact on the future of this spiritual home I share with her small bit dedicated community.

If you understandably don't want to donate to this random cause, at least spare us a quick prayer because prayer truly makes a difference.

Also if you don't trust this specific platform, there are alternate donation links on the website for St.Mary Magdelene, Langridge.
