Story
Jack is a lover of all animals and is passionate about the conservation and protection of their habitats. Jack's affection for Lemurs in particular has motivated him to raise money for Madagasikara Voakajy (Through a partnership with Chester Zoo) to see their conservation status and natural habitat improve (98% of species are endangered).
To raise money for his chosen charity, Jack will be attempting to kayak across England's deepest lake (Wast Water), before climbing England's highest mountain (Scafell Pike 978m). This will no doubt be the hardest undertaking of Jack's life so far, but he is determined to make a difference and have a positive impact on the habitat of his most beloved animal, the lemur!
In 2015, the Mangabe-Ranomena-Sahasarotra protected area (Mangabe) was created to safeguard the extraordinary biodiversity found in this region of Madagascar and to create prosperity for the human communities of Mangabe through sustainable forest management. The Mangabe Landscape represents 27,346 hectares of crucial protected area that is home to numerous species that are found nowhere else outside of Madagascar, including numerous lemur species and one of the rarest frogs on Earth: the golden mantella.
The Mangabe story is primarily one of community. The ultimate goal for Mangabe is that responsibility for its care and management is passed into the hands of the people that call Mangabe home. To achieve this requires an immense undertaking – a generation of addressing various challenges and preparing tomorrow’s guardians for the task at hand.
