Ray's fundraiser for The Abbey Church of Dunfermline

Rambo Mikalo is raising money for The Abbey Church of Dunfermline
There has been a centre of Christian Worship on the site of Dunfermline Abbey for over a thousand years. The current congregation recognises its role and responsibility in maintaining the Abbey Church of Dunfermline as a place of worship, and also as a Church which plays a major role in the life of the town of Dunfermline. Those who chose to fundraise for us support the work that we do and the upkeep of our building. Some may choose to support individual projects that are part of the activities of our congregational life. Others may choose to support us in a more general way, allowing us to decide how best to allocate funds.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

Dunfermline Abbey was constructed in the 11th/12th century with key connection in it's foundation and completion to St Margaret Queen of Scots and King David 1st of Scots. However the site is now more associated with Scotland's most famed King Robert the Bruce.

Robert the Bruce rose to fame as a result of fulfilling William Wallace's legacy, by defeating the King of England Edward ll and his army at the Battle of Bannockburn 24th June 1314. Thus setting the people of Scotland free from Edwards suppression.

Bruce died in 1329 and was buried at Dunfermline Abbey. In 1818 the ground next to the 12th century Abbey was being excavated for a new church addition. At this time the remains of Bruce were discovered and carefully exhumed, before being laid back to rest under the church alter in 1821, when the building was completed.

Sadly due to many years of battering weather, this iconic building is falling into serious disrepair to the extent of costs reaching up to £4 million. The church would also like to raise another £4 million to help develop the site and preserve it for future generations.

As an independent tour operator and Sept to Bruce, I am aiming to do my part to help with the astronomical costs. I will be donating a small percentage of my sales and profits to the cause as we progress this season, but I am also appealing to the community and wider public to help preserve the resting place of Scotland's most iconic King, Robert the Bruce.
