Scarlett competing in British Transplant Games, for UCLH Haematology Cancer Care

Scarlett McNally is raising money for University College London Hospitals Charity UK

Competing in the British Transplant Games

For over 30 years, patients, families, staff and supporters have supported Haematology Cancer Care because we help the Haematology Service deliver transformational treatment and personalised care at UCLH.

Story

Please can you: pledge to do some exercise? Encourage others? Register as an organ donor? Donate? I’m competing in the British Transplant Games in Sheffield in August 2026. I had a Stem Cell Transplant in 2020. I’m an NHS surgeon and I write in the BMJ. I’ve written a lot about “Exercise the Miracle Cure”. I want to highlight the importance of exercise and community to improve health, especially for people with medical conditions and for older people.

For the British Transplant Games, I’m part of the Royal Free hospital team, which does transplants, but also research into amyloidosis (build-up of abnormal protein). I’m raising funds for UCLH Haematology Cancer Care. I’ve had amazing life-saving treatment at UCLH that is on-going. I’ve had Myeloma (cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow) and cardiac amyloidosis since 2018. I’ve had chemotherapy, an autologous stem cell transplant, two hip replacements, some heart treatment and immunotherapy. I know that I’m alive (and working part-time) because of recent research and awesome excellent NHS treatment.

So, this is not just about money! I want you to:

• Please pledge to do some exercise (Climb stairs? Cycle to work? Go for a walk with granny/granpa? Join an event?)

• Please encourage others to be more active and to connect.

• Please sign up to the organ donor register now! And talk about it.

• Please give a small amount – maybe say what you’re pledging to do? You can change the “optional Tip for platform fees” by scrolling down to click “change custom amount” and inserting your own amount.
