In June, I will participate in a half marathon in Leamington Spa to raise funds for the incredible charity Safeline. My partner is involved with Safeline, and hearing about their dedicated efforts, especially during a time when government funding has significantly decreased, makes it even more essential to support their mission now.

Safeline is committed to supporting survivors of and preventing sexual abuse, regardless of age or gender. Alarmingly, the charity now provides support to more children affected by sexual abuse than adults. My partner oversees the prevention and early intervention team, which works closely with young people to educate them on topics such as grooming, consent, healthy relationships, and image-based abuse. Unfortunately, many of these young people have already experienced abuse. What’s more shocking is that National Crime Agency estimates that around 850,000 people pose a sexual risk to children online in the UK, and approximately 500,000 children suffer sexual abuse every year. Additionally, Safeline offers training for parents and educators to help them identify this growing issue and find the necessary support.

Moreover, Safeline provides specialised counselling for anyone impacted by sexual abuse and has Independent Sexual Violence Advocates available for those considering reporting to the police or who are already navigating the criminal justice system. They also operate a national helpline for men.
