The Mike a Bike 500 miles (Da-da da da) challenge

500 mile cycle challenge · 23 June 2025
Hello there,
My name is Scott and in 8 weeks I will be taking part in my latest charity cycling challenge. Previously I cycled to and from the Nevis range near Fort William, whilst also taking part in the MacAvalanche mountain bike race. That was a 350 mile (ish) round trip. This was all in memory of my friend Mike, who had sadly passed away a few years ago after a short battle with an illness called Mesothelioma, a type of stomach cancer caused by asbestos. I am raising money for the The Difference, who support the Margaret Kerr unit at the Borders general Hospital.
I am planning on cycling from Peebles, North to Golspie, riding the Highland Wildcat trails and cycling back South to Peebles. A total of 500 (ish) miles, all over the period of 5 days (3 on the bike).
Golspie was one of Mikes favourite places to ride bikes and sadly I never got the chance to ride there with him. With this in mind I will ride there whilst remembering him.
Day 1 - 23/06/25 -
Leave Peebles at Midnight and cycle the 245 (ish) miles North to Golspie.
Day 2 - 24/06/25 -
Be sore, rest and have a few Beers.
Day 3 - 25/06/25 -
Ride the 15 miles long Highland Wildcat mountain bike trails at Golspie.
Day 4 - 26/06/25 -
Be sore some more, rest have more Beers and Fish and Chips.
Day 5 - 27/06/25 -
Leave Golspie at Midnight and cycle the 245 (ish) miles back to Peebles.
Day 6,7,8 and probably 9 and 10 -
Be sore and drink more Beer. Then stop drinking beer and planning silly challenges whilst drinking Beer.
