Story
As a proud trustee of the MVA Society, and having been offered the once in a lifetime (I can assure you) spot in the London Marathon thanks to Children with Cancer UK, I am one of 5 budding athletes taking on the run on the 26th April to raise money for both the mighty MVA Society (https://mvasociety.org/) and Children with Cancer UK (www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk)! Its a truly 'joint' approach - 50% MVA Society and 50% Children with Cancer UK - cancer being the unifying factor.
While still feeling my 'long training run' from this past weekend in my very heavy legs, it's time for a boost and reminder why I'm doing this and ask for your kind contributions to two great causes! As an extra booster - all funds raised here will be match funded so your generosity will count double!
Running for both the MVA Society, which is close to my heart, and the unbelievably worthy cause of Children with Cancer UK, there is a bit more information about each below:
About The MVA Society
The MVA Society (www.mvasociety.org) is the first and only organisation in the world to focus research into this ultra-rare condition. A close friend of mine, Jonathan, founded the MVA Society as his young son has the condition and through the work of the charity we will find a treatment for this condition and prevent related cancers.
About Children with Cancer UK
We are the leading childhood cancer charity in the UK, supporting families and childhood cancer research since 1988. Over the last 38 years, we’ve developed kinder treatments, improved public and scientific understanding of childhood cancer.
Every child should have their whole life ahead of them, but cancer is still one of the biggest causes of death in young people under the age of 15.
Finding new ways to identify cancer in children and young people, and better, kinder ways to treat them means more will survive without the life-inhibiting side effects that can often come with remission.
We fund research: we’ve funded over 300 research projects leading to the development of better, kinder treatments and significantly contributing to survival rates which we’ve seen improve from 67% to 85.2%
We support families: From days out to special events, we work with trusted and experienced partners to ensure families have the emotional and financial support they need, allowing them to focus on what matters most – their child and reconnecting as a family.
We raise awareness: We shine a spotlight on childhood cancer to improve outcomes for thousands of children and young people across the UK. Thanks to our network of experts, we can educate families, the public and the scientific community.
