Walking a complete circuit of Sri Lanka.

"WECare are going to save the world, one animal at a time!" Janey Lowes, very optimistic founding member of WECare Worldwide. We dream of providing healthcare for all animals in desperate need of help around the world. Yes, we know it's a big dream, but anything is possible when we all come together! WECare Worldwide is an organisation set up by Westway Veterinary Group, the largest veterinary practice in the North of England. Ultimately, WECare Worldwide plan to extend veterinary services around the globe but initially will be concentrating on tacking the issues with the street dog population in Sri Lanka. It is estimated that there are up to 3 million street dogs in Sri Lanka. WECare Worldwide are in the process of carrying out a 5 year plan in which we will look to help eliminate rabies in the country and also reduce the numbers of unwanted street dogs. We will also treat any sick or injured street dogs.

Story

MISSION COMPLETE, STATS AT BOTTOM OF BIO

On Wednesday December 6th 2023 I set off on a journey to walk the entire coastline of Sri Lanka. after a tough year of losing immediate family members and on a weightloss mission. The plan only to come in land to avoid the dangers of the Larger national parks. The journey in total is going to be approximately 1500km which I plan to complete in 60 days (Not been done before, at least by a foreigner) The equivalent of lands end to John O'Groats. I have been walking through mid day heat, monsoons and national parks (Elephant territory).

As of today Christmas I am ...... and have just reached the east coast after a Christmas day 25km trek.

It was always part of the plan to include a charity and WECareWorldwide were Always the team I wanted to try assist after seeing their work on TV many years back! I've Recently visited the WECare hospital and witnessed first hand the great work they do on a daily basis and the help they could really do with due to the massive amount of terrible cases in Sri Lanka.

If you have an hour spare check out the work they do on channel 5 player: Ben Fogle lives in the wild, Season 9 Episode 4.

Follow @wecare_srilanka on Instagram to really see the true extent and somewhat disturbing cases they have to deal with, but ultimately the majority of times become sucess stories.

All donations will be incredibly helpful! If your considering bringing a dog into your life maybe contact the we care team for potential adoption opportunities.
